SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of a 45-year-old coal miner from San Antonio.

Officials say Richard Rodriguez was hit in the head by some equipment.

Rodriguez was in the process of connecting an electrical cable to a dragline when the line rotated and struck him.

MartiRodrigueznez died Tuesday at a San Antonio hospital. The accident happened Monday.

Dallas-based North American Coal operates the mine, which produces lignite coal for the San Miguel power plant, about 50 miles south of San Antonio.

A spokesman Dean Peterson says operations at the site of the accident has been suspended.
